Yoga & Mindfulness at Home

Did you know that our own Miss Cayce is also a certified yoga instructor? She’s been sharing the joy of yoga with children through her company Maine Kids Yoga for years, and she put together a few short videos for us to share with you at home! These are great for putting extra energy to good use, for alleviating some of that built up stress and anxiety, and you can work them into your daily routine to get some extra movement, yoga and mindfulness into your day. The benefits are just as great for adults as they are for the kiddos. You can do the videos together as a family, or get your child set up for their own private yoga class as Miss Cayce leads us through a few short breathing and pose work sequences! Maybe after a few viewings, the kiddos can teach YOU the moves!

At West End Village School, we believe that social emotional learning is crucial to healthy development and education. Recently, our friend Miss Jenny began offering mindfulness play for our friends on Wednesdays, and it’s been an excellent addition to our curriculum! Miss Jenny teaches mindfulness to children and their families at our studio next door, as well as throughout the Greater Portland Area through her company, Wondering Minds. She’s been kind enough to put together a few special videos for all of you to practice mindfulness together while you’re at home!

Sun Salutation

This is a great yoga sequence for waking up, for resetting the mind and body after a transition, or just to get the body moving anytime you need. We love doing sun salutations together in our morning meetings!

AlphaBreaths!

Miss Jenny shares a mindfulness ABC book filled with 26 different mindful breaths, one for each letter of the alphabet. Do just a few each day, or practice all 26 breaths right now. Learning a few helpful breaths to call on when needed is a powerful skill for young children to carry in their tool belts!

Mindful Moments Song

Miss Jenny taught this sweet song to our friends just prior to our closure, it’s a great one to practice at home to help the kiddos continue to learn it so we can sing it all together with Miss Jenny again soon!
